Thank you for “GivingBIG”

May 6, 2021

We are honored that so many members of our community stepped forward through GiveBIG on Wednesday and Thursday, May 4 and 5, 2021, to help us renovate our new South Campus building, increase classroom space, and grow our services.

With donations made directly through our GiveBIG page plus matching funds, our community dedicated $19,000 toward APL “Branching Out.” Thank you.

APL’s “South Campus” building near the corner of NE 47th St. and Roosevelt in Seattle, WA’s University District – just blocks from our main campus.

If you didn’t get a chance to support this project during the official GiveBIG campaign, the campaign page remains open at, or make a donation any time on our website at

GiveBIG Early to Support our South Campus

Help APL "Branch Out" to our South Campus with a donation through GiveBIG on May 4 and 5.

April 20, 2021

APL’s 2021 GiveBIG campaign will be dedicated to supporting our expansion as we “Branch Out” to our South Campus.

Located just blocks away on Roosevelt Ave. NE, this additional space will allow us to serve more students – both at that location and at our traditional location in University Heights.

We will also be able to expand the programs we offer to create student success – including independent living experiences, a working kitchen, a school store and speech-language pathology.

Watch the video below where we announced the expansion at our February 2021 online auction.

Early giving is open as of April 20, 2021 – donations may be scheduled up until the campaign launches and runs on May 4 and 5. Make your gift at . If you have any questions, e-mail us at Thank you for your commitment to APL’s students and mission.

Support for our AAPI community

March 17, 2021

Increasingly, we are seeing acts of violence and hate against our Asian American and Pacific Islander community members. The March 16, 2021 violent attacks in Atlanta left six Asian American women dead. That our citizens are experiencing fear and hate in the very places they should feel safest– at their work, their homes, or their places of worship — is heartbreaking.

For any and all among our school team, our Academy for Precision Learning (APL) families, and wider community who are grappling with these incidents, please know that I – and my administrative team – stand with you and seek to support however we can.

A report shared by Stop AAPI Hate documented 3,795 racially motivated attacks against Asian Americans from March 2020 to February 2021. 68% of those attacked are women, while 29% are men. The incident in Atlanta on March 16 has its own context, but is part of a broader issue of violence against AAPI citizens. In the year since the pandemic began, this increase in attacks and messages of hate speech illustrate the impact of racist rhetoric adjacent to our global experience of COVID-19.

If you are interested to learn more about this issue, please check out the links below. And, if others have resources to share, please do.

Take care–

Kelly Meyer (she/her)

APL’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Statement

February 23, 2021

“Diversity – The art of thinking independently together” – Malcolm Forbes.

The Academy for Precision Learning is an educational community of diverse staff and families. We believe in fostering an environment where critical thinking is our greatest asset to engaging children, where all ideas are welcome, and where staff and students feel empowered to discuss Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

APL sees itself as an ally in the community. We are committed to engaging students, staff, and families in DEI work. We encourage everyone to educate themselves, be present in uncomfortable conversations, and be courageous around the work of DEI.

With our students, we use curriculum that celebrates the voices of those who are often marginalized, and challenges students to see themselves as agents of change.

With our staff, we make space for DEI work in three key ways. First, our DEI committee plans professional development. Second, we facilitate affinity groups led by staff. Third, we have active speakers from the community for staff events. In 2021, we are partnering with speaker and author, Ayana King of Maximum Communications, to hold a four-part workshop series around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for all staff.

With our families, we invite participation in classrooms to share experiences and learn alongside students. Not only do we listen to families when they have feedback and potential ideas for the DEI work we are doing at school, we also invite families to the table to share and discuss their experiences with students, staff, and leadership throughout the year.

We strive to have our community members take part in the hard work and conversations and use what they have learned out into the world to make a positive change.
